Joan T. (Curry) Puopolo, a resident of Reading since 1964, died February 21, 2013 at the Winchester Hospital after a brief illness. She was 76 years of age. Joan was born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 1, 1937, the daughter of the late William F. and Helen E. (Gately) Curry. Joan grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School. Joan worked for many years for the Town of Reading in the Assessor’s Office and as an Administrative Assistant for the Reading Police Chief. In her retirement she worked for several years at the Joshua Eaton Elementary School in Reading. Her grandchildren and family were first and foremost in her life. Joan was the beloved wife of the late Anthony J. Puopolo. Devoted mother of Teresa L. Reid and her husband Douglas of Reading; Richard A. Puopolo of Tewksbury and his friend Lori Allen of Woburn; Joni Puopolo and her husband Steve Lasecki of Leominster; David C. Puopolo and his friend Amy Powers Smith of Gloucester; and Lisa M. Rikeman and her husband Jim of Newburyport. Loving nana of Alyssa, Anthony, Rachel, Erika, Hannah, Olivia, Maia, Delia, Jake and Kara. She was the cherished sister of William Curry of RI; Kay Kelly of Quincy; Pat Leary of FL; Ann Perneta of Holbrook and the late Marie Lindley; Edmund Curry and Helen “Nunny” Curry. Her funeral will be held from the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) in Reading on Tuesday, February 26 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading. Funeral home visiting hours will be Monday from 3-8 pm.
